13 Nightmares--Lincoln, Ne / 1986-1993? / Released one LP on Pravda Records (Chicago). Gregg Cosgrove-vocals/guitar, Heidi Ore--bass/vocals, Jon Taylor--guitar, Ron Albertson--drums
From Trouser Press/Ira Robbins: "While reviving the ethos of a '60s new-left stereotype — white guilt, inchoate rage, the romance of poverty and misery — in its lyrics, this striking quartet from Lincoln, Nebraska slams three generations — the MC5, Cheap Trick and Soul Asylum — of Midwest rock into each other on the powerful Shitride. Great tunes, loose'n'lively hair-raising electric music and guitarist Greggory-David Cosgrove's ripping vocals load the album with bracing energy and an extraordinary balance of rawness and subtlety. Except for occasionally insufferable lyrics (the title track is a whiny complaint about the rock'n'roll life that goes so far as to gripe about bartenders who withhold free drinks; "E.C" expresses solidarity for Eldridge Cleaver with the line "It's a white man's world for everybody but you and me" — yeah, right), this is an extremely cool record."

Creeping Charlie was formed sometime in 2003 and ended in late spring/early summer 2004 with Erick Howard's departure to Chicago. We played at Knickerbockers often. Played poker and drank in the Russian Bottoms. The album was recorded by Nick Westra in his "laboratory" in northeast Lincoln on very grey and chilly days. I think we were one of the first bands Nick recorded. We had a few other songs that we only played live, but Sewell & Sheridan in all its imperfections captures the essence of what we wanted to accomplish together in the short time we were able to call each other bandmates, though I think we will always call each other that.

John handled most of the vocals and harmonica. After their first EP, they enlisted the lead guitar work of Mitch Vande Stowe. This was an eclectic folk group or they liked to say performers of New American Music. Recorded by Brett Holihan at Startracker Studio in Lincoln, NE. It was only available on a cassette, but wasn't everything? I mean getting an album pressed was a commitment. After blowing the wad on on the recording and cassettes who could afford it. I suppose a band that sold some albums that's who. Ok, so we were't uber-popluar but we did have our day in the sun. Can you say Big Red Rock o Rama? We were a band from say 1989 to Dec 1993.

This was our second tape. Oh the 90's were full of tapes. We recorded this live to 2 track and that was pretty satisfying. We recorded some of the songs from the first tape over because the lineup had changed and wanted to have recordings with Don playing. This was right before I moved to Minneapolis. Where MM died slowly. Alan never made it to the twin cities and the bass player that joined us never really got what we were doing. I think his name was Dave Buckley. Although things didn't work out for the band I want to extend thanks to Dave for his moving to Minneapolis. It was a big leap of faith. Only to have it not work out so for that I am sorry.

Although I submitted this album to thebandbrokeup, I'm only merely a fan of it, never a member. The album is the debut, and only, recording by Sad Old Lady, originally called Sad Old Lady from the South. From what I've observed, the band started with Ben Clark on vocals and Brent Meier on keys/vocals. It later went on to include Tricia Klitsch on guitar/vocals, Dan Rempe on guitar, Amos Joseph on bass, and Jeff Gustafson on drums. One song on the album was written by Joseph, one song was by Meier, and the rest were written by D.J. Scharton, who did not actually play with the band. The album was recorded and mixed by Shaun Sparks, who apparently lost all the SOL files due to an unfortunate hard drive crash. The image for the album's cover is not actually the cover, but it serves to supply an idea of what Sad Old Lady was like live.
(This album and the text above was submitted by a fan, but as is our policy we did confirm with the band, in this case Ben Clark, before posting the recording. It's a doozy and we're happy to have it. You should be, too. - The Mgmt.)

Vern was comprised of lead singer/bass player Kenny Keuck, lead guitar Chris Hemmelman and drummer Eric J Eckert. They formed in the fall of 2001 and played shows across Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa for a year and a half before breaking up. The CD was recorded by some guy named Josh in the middle of nowhere in Hornick, Iowa during a blizzard in a 12 hour period, only taking a break to go to a Charles Dumar Project show at True Skateshop in Sioux City, Iowa. It was released on Gypsy Lover Records.
